Early carved Papua New Guinean bone held in place with 22k gold conical  form, with fine seed pearl detailing hanging from a south sea pearl post.

Carved bone elements such as these were often worn as ornamentation in tribal settings, the more ornate and more decorated the higher the status of the wearer within the society. In addition these items were part of the intricate barter system within these island cultures, used as dowery and trade.
